Dear Specialist Colleagues:
The attached Ontario Association of Specialists’ letters were sent to the OMA, the MOH and Arbitrator Kaplan today. They call for the allocation of the recently recommended 9.75% increase as an across-the-board approval for all Ontario specialists and family physicians to offset the 15.1% inflation impact. Many of the physicians most affected by inflation were specialists, particularly those with disproportionately higher practice overheads. The Year 1 PSA increase must be built in as a permanent increase in the OHIP Schedule of Benefits for all.
The Arbitrator’s award to Ontario physicians will not be voted upon. The process should be straightforward and equitable to all OMA members. It should happen quickly rather than be bogged down in more negotiations. The inflationary impact that drove this special increase demands a response that recognises all doctors. Future increases coming in years 2-4 can address the other priorities.
The OSA is encouraging all specialists to email the OMA to ensure an across-the-board increase is the year 1 priority. All physicians deserve to be treated fairly after enduring a 15.1% inflationary period
